Introducing the CRT’s 2025 Summer Student

The CRT is very excited to welcome Courtney Tizya.

Courtney will be working with the CRT as a summer student from May to August 2025.

Courtney is Vuntut Gwich’in on her father’s side. Courtney grew up between Musqueam territory (where she attended school) and Tagish where she spent her childhood summers. She is also a citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation.

Courtney has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology from Vancouver Island University (VIU). She started her degree at Yukon University before transferring to Nanaimo to finish her last two years at VIU. She is currently studying law at the University of Victoria (UVIC) in the joint degree program in Canadian Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders. Courtney loves living on Vancouver Island and particularly enjoys getting outside, exploring local Indigenous pop-up markets, and gathering for food with friends.
